Planning your wedding can feel like a full-time job... but it doesn’t have to.

In this episode of The Snagged Podcast, I’m sharing the exact 4-step process I’ve used for over 20 years as a wedding planner and florist—plus a sweet little story that inspired this episode in the first place.

I was in my flower studio with my daughter, working on arrangements for a client, when she suddenly looked up and said,“Hey Mom, here’s what my future husband is going to be like…”

Cue the tears (and the voice memo app)!I had to grab my phone and record her before she said another word. That impromptu moment reminded me that the dream of a wedding starts early for so many of us. We imagine what it will feel like, what we’ll wear, who we’ll marry—even before we fully understand what marriage means.

Fast forward to now: You’re engaged, and the dream is real.Only now, you’re asking yourself... “How do I plan a wedding?”

Let’s break it down.

🪄 Step 1: DREAM

This is your foundation. It’s where you ask yourself,“What do I want this day to feel like?” Forget Pinterest for a moment. Start with heart. Do you want your day to feel joyful and loud? Intimate and romantic? Is your priority dancing the night away or sharing handwritten vows under twinkle lights? One of the first things I ask my clients—after I hear their story and proposal—is how they want to feel when they wake up on their wedding day. This answer helps guide every other decision.

And yes, even choosing chicken fingers for dinner can reflect your love story if that’s what you shared on your first date. Every detail can be meaningful.

🗓️ Step 2: PLAN

This step is all about creating your wedding day timeline and organizing your key decisions.

Here are a few things to think through:

  • Where are you getting ready in the morning?

  • Are you doing a first look?

  • Who’s walking down the aisle with who during the processional?

  • What do you want your ceremony to feel like?

  • What’s the order of events for your cocktail hour and reception—first dance, special dances, speeches, cake cutting?

This is the “logistics” phase, but don’t let that word scare you. You’re not expected to know how to do it alone.

🎨 Step 3: DESIGN

Now it’s time to bring your dream to life visually.

Think about: your color palette, florals, signage, tablescape, and the vibe you want your guests to walk into and say,“This feels like them.Whether you’re going for boho garden party or sleek black-tie elegance, your wedding design should feel personal—not like you just copied a Pinterest board.

Pro tip: Pull inspiration from your real life. A favorite restaurant, your proposal trip, your shared hobbies... that’s where the best design ideas live.

✅ Step 4: ACHIEVE

This is where everything comes together. I call it “The Bible of the Day.”

It’s your master wedding document with:

  • Your full timeline

  • Vendor contact list

  • Ceremony order

  • Reception schedule

  • Emergency contacts

  • Seating charts

  • Literally everything your planner, coordinator, vendors, or best friend running the show needs to know.

When this step is done well, you get to let go and be present.

This is the part where you go from planning to achieving your dream wedding.

💬 Final thoughts on how to plan a wedding:

You’ve dreamed it.

You’ve planned it.

You’ve designed it.

Now it’s time to achieve it—with confidence, peace, and joy.

And hey—if you’re still not sure where to start, I’ve got you.
